Sixth Form Entry
The Sixth Form is a dynamic place where students are taught a wide range of subjects in small groups. Teachers know students very well and a great deal of support is available to prepare them for and take them through the university application process or whichever route they decide to take after school.
As long as places are available, applications to join the Lower Sixth (Year 12) are accepted throughout the preceding academic year, however, options blocks are created based on the subject preferences of the students on the list in January so it is advised that applications are made prior to this.
Registration is by completion and return of a School Application Form, along with the registration fee, which can be paid in cash, by cheque or by bank transfer. Please see our fees page for the registration fee and bank details.
On receipt of an application, arrangements are made for students to come into School for an interview with the Headmaster or Director of Sixth Form. A reference, including predicted GCSE grades, is requested from the applicant’s current school.
Following receipt of a satisfactory reference and a successful meeting with the Headmaster, he will make a formal offer of a place in writing, normally with a requirement to respond within 28 days or by a date specified in the letter, subject to the applicant gaining the required grades at GCSE. These are currently six Grade 5s and above, to include a minimum of three Grade 6s (some subjects may require higher specific requirements). To accept a place, parents must complete, sign and return the Parent Acceptance Form, which is sent with the offer letter and which then forms the contract with the School, along with the fee deposit (see the fees page for details of this).
Students whose places have been accepted are invited to attend the Sixth Form Induction Programme which takes place towards the end of the Summer term after the GCSE examinations have taken place. One day is spent in School having introductory lessons in proposed A Level subjects and the second day is spent out of School on a team building, social trip.

The Admissions Team will contact students in August when the GCSE results are issued to confirm grades. All new Lower Sixth students will be asked to make an appointment with their Form Tutor on the day before term starts to confirm subjects or discuss changes in choices.
Current TPS students in Year 11 transfer automatically into the Lower Sixth, subject to them achieving the required grades, unless a term’s notice of withdrawal has been given to the Headmaster.
