Pupils and staff yesterday took part in the annual House Tug O’ War competition in which Spencer House claimed victory.
The four Houses, Spencer, Eliot, Mandela and Newton, all entered teams which had to combine girls and boys of different age groups plus a member of staff. Each round of the competition was the best of three pulls and points were awarded as each House fought against all the others. Team colours in the form of face paints and mascots were in place and tension was high as tremendous competitive spirit came out.
Spencer House, led by Geography teacher, Chris Brocklesby, maintained their edge by becoming champions for the second year running.
The event was organised by the Director of Sport, Steve Roberts, who said: “The House system at the School is very strong and, although it’s competitive, it gives students across different year groups the chance to work together and get to know each other. Even though it’s only a recent introduction, the Tug O’ War competition is really popular and allows the students to have a go at something they wouldn’t normally try – it’s a lot of fun!”.
