We were delighted to host the first round of the English Speaking Union Mace Debating Competition and welcomed three other schools to compete. This was the first time that any stage of the competition had come to The Peterborough School and home soil suited the team as they won convincingly and are now through to the next round.
Our speakers, Serena Ward and Gemma Rate, defeated the team from Oundle School as they debated the motion 'Parents should be punished for the crimes of their children'. Bourne Grammar School came second and are also through to the next round. The team from Springwood High School, Kings Lynn brought a brave team of Year 10 girls who should be congratulated on their performance.
Head of School, Emily Morgan, chaired the session and did a wonderful job in this role. She was assisted by timekeepers, Alexander Cobb and Matthew Rate. We now await news of the date and competitors for the next round. Well done to everyone involved.
