Nine girls from Years 9 to 12 recently enjoyed a week in Le Château, Normandy. The week consisted of activities based at the château itself and day trip excursions in the region, the preparations for which were all conducted in French. Trips were taken to destinations such as Mont St. Michel, The Bayeux Tapestry, the market at Granville, not forgetting the goat farm, where we were able to pick up newborn kids and learned how to make cheese in French. One member of our group even displayed her talent for milking goats!
Activities in the magnificent grounds of the château, ranged from rock climbing to orienteering in the snow (see photo) to a camp fire, with all the instructions being given in French. The group enjoyed authentic French food at mealtimes and were given the opportunity to try snails, which sadly weren’t a big hit. The girls all took away many fond memories of the trip (particularly the French quiz evening) and it is safe to say that spending a week in the heart of rural France has greatly improved their French and was a most beneficial experience for all.
